Prospective Majors

First-Time First Year Students

As a first-time first year (FTFY) student, you may be granted admission into the Kinesiology major upon admission to Sonoma State University. Applicants should select “Kinesiology” as their intended program on Cal State Apply.

Please refer to Admissions’ How to Apply page for important information and deadlines, as well as FTFY Admission Requirements.

Transfer Students

As a transfer student, you may be granted admission into the Kinesiology major upon admission to SSU. Applicants should select “Kinesiology” as their intended major on Cal State Apply.

Please refer to Admissions’ How to Apply page for important information and deadlines.

Transfer students should familiarize themselves with the Admission Requirements for Transfers.

While not a requirement, we do recommend that transfer students complete an Intro to Kinesiology course (KIN 201), an Applied Elementary Statistics course (MATH 165), a Human Anatomy course (BIOL 220), and a Human Physiology course (BIOL 224) prior to transferring to SSU.

Visit ASSIST.org to see which courses at your junior/community college articulate to these SSU courses.

Current SSU Students

Current SSU students who would like to change their major to Kinesiology must complete a Change of Major form. Please select a concentration when completing the form. Prior to submitting the form, please reach out to kinesiology@sonoma.edu to let us know of your intent to change into the Kinesiology major and to ensure you are selecting the correct concentration for your future career and/or educational goals.
